As an American Connection Corps (ACC) AmeriCorps Fellow, John is currently helping coordinate the completion of our Strategic Plan while providing support with WRA's technology use and integration.
John is alarmed by supermarket chains, their suppliers, and policies that support their dominance of the American food market at our expense as consumers that face constantly rising prices for produce or food deserts.
John believes WRA's community driven farming and gardening practices can be a sustainable alternative to grocery stores for our local community while serving as a template for community farming & gardening practices throughout the Midwest and beyond.

I am passionate about developing educational learning environments in a multitude of disciplines. My primary focus is on enhancing and motivating learning through video games. I am writing and creating a mobile application for an educational-based video game and an educational-based children's book, among other projects. My wife, who has been gardening for over 30 years, has given me an appreciation for gardening and growing produce. I thoroughly enjoy our garden in our backyard and the fresh fruits and vegetables produced. I enjoy reading and writing and playing golf, basketball, football, and baseball during my spare time. Most significantly, I appreciate the time I can spend with my family.

TC’s extensive farming expertise is a generational legacy, handed down throughout his family including his great-grandparents who had been forced to farm through enslavement, and his sharecropper grandparents. While living in the Danbury Park apartment complex, TC earned the nickname “Ghetto Gardener” for transforming the turf grass outside his home into a fruit and vegetable garden. Neighborhood kids were the first to approach, curious about the transformation occurring outside their windows. They were the impetus behind more neighbors getting involved, until 18 families had gardens lining the block.
With the help of dedicated volunteers, TC has turned his focus to two properties: a community garden at Apple Ridge Park in Ypsilanti Township and the development of a small farm operation, farmers market, and agricultural learning center in our Township: The Clay Hill Community Farm & Garden (Excerpt from article by Willow Run Acres Volunteer Eric Geiser).

She retired from the University of Michigan Health System in 2021 and is now focused on giving back to her community with her time, knowledge and love. Jan joined Willow Run Acres in 2022 after hearing Farmer TC present a proposal at a Township Board of Trustees meeting for a Community Farm and Garden to be located in Superior Township’s most underserved community. When Jan is not working the earth to grow food in her garden, she is working with Farmer TC to help grow the organization for the community.
